Artist Statement

"I am giving others an opportunity to see the world through my eyes, as my witness, and as a result I hope they have a deeper sense of wonder and appreciation for their natural surroundings and I encourage them to seek similar experiences in their own lives."

Professional Experience

Watercolor Instructor..

Sauk Rapids Community Education. Provided instruction on watercolor techniques and design principles through group demonstrations and individual instruction.

  • Designed and presented beginner, intermediate, and advanced lesson plans on technique and design.
  • Provided materials necessary for painting for people who needed them.
  • In class demonstrations of techniques, design concepts, and completed paintings.
  • Spring 2003, Fall 2003, Winter 2004, Spring 2004, Fall 2004, Spring 2005
  • 15 Demonstrations have been donated to participants of the class.

Baker's Home-time Hobby.Provided instruction on watercolor techniques, design concepts, and provided in-class demonstrations in January of 2004.

  • Designed lesson plans for absolute beginners. The topics for the lessons were value simplification, color simplification, and watercolor techniques – including visual aids.
  • Conducted one in-class demonstration each class period on the topic of the lesson.

Michael’s Arts and Crafts. Provided instruction on watercolor techniques, design concepts, and provided in-class demonstrations for five separate courses. Two hour, four week long courses were complete in June 2004, September 2004, October 2004, November 2004, January 2005.

  • Designed lesson plans for absolute beginners. The topics for the lessons were value simplification, color simplification, and watercolor techniques – including visual aids.
  • Conducted one in-class demonstration each class period on the topic of the lesson.

Oak Hill Middle School. Provided instruction on watercolor techniques, business info about painters, and provided a demonstration for an art class of 30 6th graders.

Jefferson Elementary School. Provided instruction on watercolor techniques, business info about painters, and provided a demonstration for an art class of 30 2nd graders.


Public Watercolor Demonstrations.

Rum River Arts Festival.Demonstrated for students in grade levels 9-12 on various topics relating to watercolor. Specifically techniques and visual language elements. Two demonstrations were given away to students from the district.

Paramount Art Gallery.Paintings were part of a featured artist event for the month of December, 2002. During the Opening night, I demonstrated a painting of the St. Cloud Hospital, that was later displayed at a solo exhibition at the Hospital.

High School Art Show Judge

Litchfield Area High School Art Show

Was paid $100 to familiarize myself with high school level artwork by visiting the Litchfield High School Art Web-site, judging artwork of various mediums based on an established criteria, and presenting myself in a professional manner during the discussion and presentation of awards.

Section 2AA Minnesota State High School League Art Competition, Paramount Arts District

Was paid $110 to familiarize myself with high school level artwork, judging artwork of various mediums based on established criteria, and presenting myself in a professional manner during the discussion and presentation of awards.

Real Estate Illustrations

Elcor Realty, Rochester MN

Was independently contracted as a freelance illustrator to create multiple renderings of Elcor Realty Project Houses and Townhomes.
