Watercolor and Gouache
The snow melt created a frozen waterfall down the side of this rock face and echoed some of the patterns in the ice. I like taking notice of both the dark and light ice patterns and the cracks running through both.
The Quarry Park is an abandoned granite quarry re-purposed as a county park. The quarries now feature rainbow trout, swimming beaches, and rock climbing; not to mention very unique imagery for painting from. It has been a perpetual subject matter of mine for over 15 years and I love painting at the park. The unique blend of organic natural geology with man-made grout piles and serenely placid water make for dramatic scenes that I can't help but paint. The best part is that each time I go there I feel like I am experiencing something new.
