 This striking lighting condition where the foreground is in bright sunlight and the background in shadow happens on the partly cloudy days, but it is s fairly hard situation to paint plein air because it's ephemeral:  here one second and gone the next.  I took some photos as reference and the lighting came and went enough times to get the gist of it.  Very inspiring scene!
